Artist statement

I was making, listening, writing, layering, and following whatever appeared. A sprained ankle had slowed my body down, but my mind was moving quickly. Somewhere in that process, foot-like forms began to emerge.

The process brought together fragments of thought, lyrics, poetry, pattern and shape. These are not illustrations of specific ideas. They are traces of attention, distraction, memory and mood. The work records what happens when I stop trying to control the outcome and allow one impulse to lead directly into the next.

I use music to disappear into the work, to move beyond conscious decision-making and into a more instinctive rhythm of making. Dale Frank’s work has been a major influence, particularly his embrace of unpredictability and material freedom.

For me, art is not separate from thought or feeling. It is a place to enter, drift through, and come back from changed.
